Bob has 46 years of experience in the oil and gas industry as an engineer and project manager and has held senior positions in global projects. He specialises in the design, construction, and operation of onshore and offshore pipelines for which he is recognised as an industry expert. Having extensive experience leading engineering teams in the design of oil & gas facilities and infrastructure Bob has built a strong reputation for delivery, leadership of diverse teams, sound technical judgement, and the management of non-operated assets.
Bob has been teaching facilities & pipeline engineering and project management for many years over which time he has refined and adapted the course material based on feedback from his students. He presents his courses with the view that “I wish someone had told me all this when I started in the oil & gas business!” His course material includes examples from projects he has been involved in over his extensive and storied career working with national and international operators, often in frontier areas and challenging environments.
The courses that Bob teaches take a strong practical focus, introducing processes and procedures used in engineering and project management and reinforcing them with examples. Delegates are encouraged to undertake calculations using ‘rule of thumb’ methods which will give a feel for how decisions are made on projects and using analysis to bring theory to reality.
His advice to prospective delegates is keep an open mind about topics covering types of development which they may not have experienced. He further encourages delegates to prepare questions based on their own experiences and project involvement. Lively discussion and active sharing of ideas will expand the depth and breadth of the learning experience.
For his courses Bob presents an overview which will help delegates to orient themselves and make sense of what is going on when thrust into a project environment. He is a very enthusiastic engineer and places particular emphasis on the importance of engineering in project management.
