Where is Tonbridge
The historic town of Tonbridge is 30 miles South East of London and only 30 minutes on the train into Charing Cross in the heart of the West End of London.
Restaurants, clubs, theatres and shops
- Tonbridge is a lively regional location attracting many visitors and shoppers. The town itself has its origins in Roman times, and visitors come to the castle (within sight of our office) and to go boating on the Medway. The town boasts a wealth of restaurants, pubs, wine bars, and night clubs.
- For shopping, Tonbridge has its high street full of individual shops, with Sainsbury and Waitrose superstores close to the town centre. Four miles away, Tunbridge Wells has a large shopping centre with all the usual high street names and a selection of designer shops.
- The town features the Oast theatre. There are also renowned theatres in nearby Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks, with the West End a 30 minute train ride for even more choice.
Schools
- Many people come to the area because of the excellent schools. Kent County Council operate a grammar and comprehensive school system.
- There is a wide choice of successful independent schools in the area.
- There are many excellent primary schools in both the state and private sectors and plenty of nurseries too. For a listing of schools and nurseries in the area, visit the Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council website. Alternatively, please ask us – many of us are parents.
Days out
- The town has many parks, playing fields and recreation areas. Go ten miles further afield and you’re in the beautiful Ashdown Forest, home of Winnie the Pooh. For stunning walks we are also close to both the North and South Downs, Chailey Common to name but a few areas of outstanding natural beauty.
- There are many historical houses and gardens of interest in the area – in fact Kent is known as ‘The Garden of England’. Leeds Castle, Hever Castle, Sissinghurst are short journeys.
- For more modern days out we are about 30 miles from Legoland, Chessington World of Adventures and Diggerland.
- We are also only 40 miles from the coast, with towns such as Hastings, Brighton and Eastbourne being closest, with their busy seaside lifestyle and marinas. If you are more interested in getting off the beaten track there are many more remote coastal locations too.
Travel
- It is easy to get to France and Belgium from Kent, either by ferry from several ports in Kent and Sussex or by Eurotunnel. Towns and cities such as Paris, Bruge and Lille are very conveniently reached. We are also only 20 miles from Gatwick International Airport if you’re looking to escape that little bit further.
Sport
- Tonbridge is home to the Tonbridge School athletics stadium, the Old Juddians rugby club, Harriers running club and numerous football clubs. There are many excellent golf courses, indoor and outdoor bowling, ten pin bowling, snooker but no bobsleigh track (…yet). There are also swimming and diving clubs, tennis clubs, badminton and squash. There are also numerous privately run leisure centres.
- There is a pick up bus to the Valley Express (Charlton’s ground) and easy links to the London clubs such as Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. Brighton and Hove Albion and Gillingham’s grounds are close by too.
