The purpose of this project was to assess the structural integrity of a pipeline.
A client had an urgent operational request to complete a study into the structural integrity of a 16" pipeline after an internal intelligent pig inspection (using magnetic flux leakage) of the line found a corrosion defect located in one of the girth welds located subsea near the central point of the pipeline. The defect size was approximately 24.0 mm x 134.0 mm x 6.5 mm (axial x circumference x depth).
Jee was asked to make an assessment and give an expert opinion on:
- The structural integrity of the pipeline given the operating loads.
- Assess the requirement to reduce the operating pressure and/or temperature
The benefit to the client was that they were provided with information and an explanation that their pipeline was safe and would satisfy the DNV-RP-F101 code to allow them to continue operating at the current pressure and temperature until the defect increased in depth by a factor of 1.24.
