The purpose of the project was to write a stand alone report and MathCAD sheets describing the methodology for:
- Stability of a rigid pipeline taking account of hydrodynamic shielding effects and the increases in lateral resistance caused by the trench.
- Stabilising of a rigid pipeline using rock dumping and calculating the size and distance between rock dumps.
- Stabilising of a flexible pipeline using rock dumping and calculating the size and distance between rock dumps.
- Stabilising of a rigid pipeline using concrete mattresses and calculating the size and distance between them and taking account of the various failure modes.
The benefit to the client was a set of consistent MathCAD sheets that are easy to use and which enable quick evaluation of a number of practical issues affecting the seabed stability of both rigid and flexible pipelines.
