Mattress placement study

The purpose of this study was to carry out a review of industry practice for placing concrete mattresses on live pipelines.

The aims were to determine:

• Common failure methods
• Standard practice for lowering mattress onto live pipelines
• Stages of the process where the mattress is susceptible to damage and caution is required

We successfully provided information to our client on common practices, the most likely failure modes for the mattress and good operating practice for both the pipeline operating status and mattress laying operations.  This will aid our client in future placement of mattresses on pipelines.
