The coatings are applied to both pipe sections and components like valves and flanges. This meant that the estimation of the thermal properties had to make use of a relatively complex two-dimensional analysis approach. Mathcad sheets were prepared that assessed the overall heat transfer coefficient and the cooldown period using two dimensional heat transfer principles. The detailed derivation of the solution and justifications for the assumptions used were made available to the client. The client was extremely happy with the work as he could then proceed to justify his claim from first principles.
