Wye piece verification

Jee has performed a number of verification studies to provide fit-for-purpose analyses on pipeline wye pieces, applicable to ASME B16.5 generic class 600 to class 1500 pipeline systems.

These included

• Developing three dimensional solid models of the subsea pipeline wye pieces using the finite element analysis package ABAQUS
• Applying factory acceptance test, hydrotest and operational pressures and bending moments
• Determining the stresses within the subsea wye pieces
• Fit-for-purpose analysis on critical welds
• Analysis of the effects of changing the end constraints of the wye pieces to include a spool piece and a brace between wye piece inlets  

The results were analysed to produce graphs of bending moment versus percentage SMYS in the wye pieces for each load case.  This allowed our clients to cross-check against design bending moments for different systems enabling the wye pieces to be used for a variety of load conditions without the need for further analysis.
