Name: Michael Crosby
Position: Graduate Engineer
Studied: Mechanical Engineering (MEng)
Joined Jee: January 2009
Why I joined Jee
After graduating from university I was looking for a company where I could put the knowledge I had gained to a practical use and to develop my skill set in the process. I was impressed with the number of courses that Jee has to offer through the training side of the business and felt that this would be a good way to gain first hand knowledge of the oil and gas industry. Jee also put emphasis on achieving excellence and this is reflected by offering a path to chartered status with the IMechE through a structured training program.
My role within Jee
I joined Jee on their graduate scheme and since then I have worked on a range of projects, from the lifetime extension of a group of existing pipelines, the design of pipeline crossings in a new project and have also been involved in a decommissioning scheme. The scope of work from day to day can vary considerably due to the nature of the business.
Living around Aberdeen
I moved to Aberdeen in April 09 and settled in very quickly. The city has a lot to offer with a large selection of shops, restaurants and bars to choose from. There is also a wide variety of sporting facilities including many nearby golf courses. During the winter there is the chance to go skiing or snowboarding in the Cairngorms if you can brave the weather. The Jee office itself is located in the town of Westhill, a 15 minute commute from Aberdeen city centre.
