Name: Graham Wilson
Position: Senior Engineer
Qualifications: MEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, CEng, MIMechE
Joined Jee: October 2004
I joined Jee (formerly Trevor Jee Associates) in October 2004 as a graduate engineer, looking to put into practice what I had been taught throughout my time in education. Since then, due to the range of consultancy and training services that Jee offer to the oil and gas industry, I have had the opportunity to undertake a range of different projects. This has included a number of secondments to other companies, giving me the chance to experience working abroad in Azerbaijan and Holland, as well as in client offices in London and Aberdeen.
Since joining Jee, I have progressed through the company development scheme to my current position of senior engineer. Jee are committed to professional development, encouraging regular attendance of training courses and seminars. The company also offer an accredited Monitored Professional Development Scheme, which has enabled me to develop the range of skills required to achieve chartered status with the IMechE.
My role within Jee
My role at Jee consists mainly of technical consultancy work and project management. Within a typical project, my technical responsibilities may include:
- Preparing calculations in accordance with associated design codes and engineering principles
- Performing finite element analysis of subsea pipelines, structures and equipment
- Developing specifications and procedures on behalf of clients or for internal use
- Delivering results to clients, in the form of both technical reports and formal presentations
- Checking calculations, analyses and reports produced by other engineers to ensure technical correctness and satisfaction of the work scope requirements
When acting in a project management role, I may also be responsible for:
- Reviewing contracts and ensuring commercial agreements are in place before commencement of work
- Providing the client interface for data gathering, queries and progress reporting
- Performing progress assessments and re-allocating resources within the project to ensure that deliverables are completed on schedule and within budget
Living near Tonbridge
Located within easy reach of London (30 minutes on the train) and the coast, Tonbridge is ideally situated. Having been a market town since the Middle Ages, it is steeped in history, with the 13th century Norman castle overlooking the river Medway dominating the town centre. The historic spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells is also only a short journey away, offering greater shopping opportunities and the chance to try the waters of the famous Chalybeate Spring, which is still flowing today.
Tonbridge is fortunate enough to be situated in the midst of the Kent countryside, offering plenty of National Trust properties and good hiking and cycling opportunities. Tonbridge also possesses the range of sporting facilities, restaurants, pubs and bars that are expected of a town of this size.
